I Can't Drive 55!

It’s 12:37pm on the last day of 2005. I am sitting in bed in my PJs as I write this, listening to frustrated screaming coming from the next room. Toby spent the morning with us sitting on the bed surrounded by heaps of toys, but still desperate the play with the TV remote, a screwdriver, a coffee cup (full) instead of anything that is supposed to be made for babies.

Anyway, we were having a lovely morning. Breakfast in bed, playing and giggling and then all of a sudden it all went pear shaped. You know the drill – even if you don’t have a baby yourself, you know what it’s like when you suddenly realize you’re painfully tired. Your bottom lip pokes out. The game you were playing two minutes ago that was hilariously funny, is now just annoying. Those people who you are hanging out with you were a great accompaniment to the fun are suddenly your worst enemies. Why won’t they just shut up and leave you alone. That’s the point young Toby just hit. It’s nap time for the boy.

People have been asking us what we are doing for New Year. “Hhhhmmm…staying in bed all day and watching the ball drop at midnight East Coast time, so that we can be in bed by 10pm.” Well, we might run out and run a few errands today, but that really is the extent of it. Back in the day, I would party hard on New Year’s night. I remember one particular New Year’s eve spent in Kirriemuir, Scotland. I won’t go into detail except to say “what happens in Kirriemuir, stays in Kirriemuir.” These days its an exciting night if we get to watch a DVD all the way through without falling asleep or without Toby waking up part way through it.

Hope you enjoy these pics - the first one is Toby's first experience behind the wheel - no back seat driving for this boy. The second one is his buddy Meade, who was in town from New York, and who he hung out with on Christmas eve.

Happy New Year, All! Our resolution for the year is to update this at least every two weeks. Mark your calendars…we are!

Oh, Toby, I feel ya boy! I'm tired like that, too, right now.

Yay! Look forward to semi-regular pictorial updates!
